Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, Meta, Amazon, and Tesla are increasingly focusing on the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). They have set themselves the goal of developing breakthrough-capable AGI systems within the next three to five years that will fundamentally transform the labor market.
Unlike previous AI systems, AGI has the ability to function on a general, i.e., very broad and universal level. This means that it will be able to perform cognitive tasks across various fields, similar to human intellect. The expected breakthrough of these technologies will lead to a significant shift in the labor market starting in the 2030s. What initially begins as a popular work support will subsequently become a displacement tool. Particularly affected will not only be traditional office professions such as analysts, controllers, accountants, and administrative staff but also areas previously considered less vulnerable to automation, such as sales.
The sales sector, traditionally reliant on human skills such as persuasiveness, relationship building, and individual customer approach, will also undergo a massive transformation. AI-driven purchasing agents will be able to make purchasing decisions autonomously by not only identifying the best products and prices but also analyzing individual customer needs and market trends in real-time. These agents will not only automate simple transactions but will also take over complex negotiations and strategic purchases, making them an indispensable tool for companies. They will face automated systems as well. Human sales will find its niche in product marketing, but naturally, there will be significantly fewer people needed for this.
